A Life of Service

Dr. George Valdez, MD, MBA

Known to many as “Dr. V,” Dr. George Valdez was born and raised in southwest Houston. After graduating from Bellaire High School, he earned a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology from Texas A&M University, where he also received the Buck Weirus Spirit Award.

Dr. Valdez graduated from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston in 1999. After completing his Family Medicine residency at Dartmouth in New Hampshire in 2002, he returned to Texas and began practicing in Tomball. Soon afterward, he founded Family Health Pro (FHP). For his first 15 years in practice, he also served as the Tomball High School team doctor.

Over time, Dr. Valdez expanded his training and expertise, earning board certification in Hospice and Palliative Medicine as well as an MBA from Florida State University in Miami.

As his practice grew, he began caring for nursing-home residents who could no longer reliably travel to a traditional medical office. That work revealed an important need: older adults with advanced illness often require more than routine medical care. They and their families benefit from greater coordination with facility staff, clearer communication, and thoughtful support through complex decisions.

This realization led to the creation of FHP Geriatrics.

From Clinic Care to Senior Care—and Beyond

The need for this care model soon became clear in more settings. In 2020, Dr. Valdez shifted his focus to full-time geriatrics, bringing care directly to patients where they live. Always an early adopter of technology, he began developing a telehealth platform two years before the pandemic, helping his team continue to provide high-quality care to fragile and vulnerable patients.

As other primary care providers sought palliative-care expertise beyond senior living communities and the Houston area, Dr. Valdez founded Agevantx, a specialty palliative-care consulting service.

Recognizing that many patients with advanced illness continued to suffer despite conventional prescription treatment, Dr. Valdez also became one of Texas’s leading experts in the use of medical cannabis in geriatric and hospice care. He serves on the National Compassionate Care Council, which advises on Medicare policy and helps shape state and federal standards.

FHP Geriatrics was built to provide proactive, coordinated primary and multispecialty care for seniors in independent living, assisted living, and skilled-nursing communities. Today, the practice serves more than 100 facilities throughout the Houston region.

Plantersville Regional Medical Center will bring together the lessons learned, systems refined, and relationships earned through this work—all under one roof.

Plantersville Is Home

Dr. Valdez and his wife, Diana, raised six remarkable children, who are now independent adults. Their family has long been guided by a simple belief: do what needs to be done for those who need it most—with integrity, hard work, and genuine care for others.

In 2023, after spending time with dear friends in the area, Dr. Valdez and Diana purchased a small farmhouse in Plantersville. What began as a simple visit grew into a deep appreciation for this community, its people, and its enduring character. In 2026, they committed to putting down roots here full time.

Together, they saw an opportunity to build something lasting: a trusted healthcare institution grounded in humility, service, clinical excellence, and meaningful relationships.

Diana leads operations and management and is a recognized leader in her field. With more than 15 years of experience as a medical-practice consultant, she and her team have helped practices across Texas start, survive, and grow. Together, Dr. Valdez and Diana bring longstanding relationships and earned trust with specialists, hospitals, and healthcare organizations throughout the region.

Our Promise

We will begin with the values of a local practice: knowing our patients, listening carefully, and showing up when it matters most.

We are building toward the standards of an institution our community can be proud of—one known for dependable care, thoughtful innovation, and respect for every patient and family.

The clinic is envisioned as a center for academic excellence, welcoming medical students and graduate residents for clinical rotations. It will also create opportunities for specialists to serve the area and, over time, grow into a broader professional and commercial healthcare complex.

Plantersville deserves exceptional care close to home. We look forward to serving you.
